Kamloops to Victoria

We woke up this morning to a very smoke-y Kamloops. There were little bits of white ash floating in the air and covering our car. As we drove towards Vancouver the fields looked like they had frost, but it was just the ash covering everything.
It was definitely a beautiful drive on a mountain side highway but the smoke made it seem ominous and foreboding.  My cousin Paul described it as Mordor.  As we entered Vancouver the smoke was still so thick we couldn’t see any of the mountains.

We headed straight for the ferry to Vancouver Island, and had a lovely picnic while we waited for our boat. The ride seemed pretty fast, we were watching for wildlife and were able to see seals and a Bald Eagle. When Max tired of that he found an arcade – and beat Chris at a video game! Another first for our trip. (I think he was helped by the fact Chris gets a bit motion sick).

We drove to Victoria and PARKED THE CAR. Yaaaa. No car for three days. We should take a moment to give Chris some props- he found us an awesome hotel for our three-day stay in Victoria. We have a balcony and kitchenette. More then one room, what to do with all this space!! It is located downtown Victoria so we are going to walk everywhere we want to go for the next few days.

We wandered around Victoria in search of a restaurant for dinner. It was getting late and Cathy was starving so Chris was in a bit of a rush to find a place. (Cathy has been known to get a little hangry). We walked past a street performer and stopped for about a minute. Chris ssaid “lets get going” and continued to walk. Being stopped by good manners, Cathy and Max didn’t follow. The performer then singled Chris out- saying things like “Can’t you see your family wants to stay; you should relax, you are on vacation; you can’t just leave your family; etc”- this harassment made it IMPOSSIBLE to leave, after which she made Chris a part of the show. He had to join her on ‘stage’, and eventually hold her up in the air while she juggled flaming sticks in front of his face. It was so great!! What a start to our time in Victoria.

After our entertainment, we found a great little restaurant for dinner. Chris said his food was so good he was considering licking his plate. Cathy was so tired she almost fell asleep on hers.  After dinner it was straight to bed for all of us!
